The pricing story
Audible's Premium Plus has cost $14.95 a month for well over a decade — one of the longest price freezes in all of subscriptions. Amazon's lever is value-shaping, not price: the 2020 'Plus Catalog' split created a cheaper $7.95 listening-only tier while keeping the credit model (one audiobook a month) unchanged at the flagship. The credit system itself is the quiet pricing mechanism — as audiobook retail prices rose, one credit for $14.95 became a better deal, propping up perceived value without touching the fee. When a company owns the market, freezing the price is the strategy.
