Anthropic's Claude Pro launched in September 2023 at $20/month, deliberately matching ChatGPT Plus dollar-for-dollar, and hasn't moved since. Like OpenAI, Anthropic grew upward rather than raising the base price: the Max plan arrived in April 2025 at $100/month, with a $200 tier at 20x Pro usage for power users running Claude Code all day. The $20 tier has quietly gained more than it charges for — Claude Code terminal access, larger context, and each new model generation land at the same price. The AI assistant market's base price has been frozen at $20 for three years; Claude is a big reason why.
