Sony's big move was the September 2023 annual-plan massacre: 12-month Essential jumped from $59.99 to $79.99 (+33%), Extra from $99.99 to $134.99 (+35%), and Premium from $119.99 to $159.99 (+33%) — all at once, with barely a month's notice. Monthly prices were left alone, which quietly destroyed the annual discount that made Plus feel like a bargain. Combined with the 2022 restructure that folded PS Now into the new three-tier system, the effective cost of staying current on PlayStation online play has risen faster than any headline suggests.
