The pricing story

Slack's first-ever price increase came in September 2022, a year after the Salesforce acquisition closed: Pro rose from $6.67 to $7.25 per user per month (annual), and monthly billing from $8 to $8.75. The bigger squeeze was simultaneous — the free plan's searchable history was cut from 10,000 messages to just 90 days, converting history-dependent communities into paying customers overnight. Since then Slack has monetized through AI add-ons and premium tiers rather than base-price hikes. The 2022 pattern is the canonical example of an acquisition hike: new owner, new price, reduced free tier, all at once.
